Having taught herself how to play the piano when she was a young girl, she was often called upon to play at parties, weddings, funerals, and other social gatherings throughout her lifetime. She was first employed as a telephone operator in the 1920's and held that occupation off and on through the years, and was a member of the Southern Bell Pioneers of America. She was also the organist and choir director for the Little Rock Baptist Church for 35 years.
