Rose Marie Browning (Paterno), 94, born in Westerly to Angelo M. and Josephine (Gencarella) Paterno from Italy; passed away May 21, 2018.
Rose was part of a close-knit family including James, Angelo, Susan, Nancy, Amilio, Eleanor, Charles, Ernest, Lucy and Carmella Paterno.
Rose worked for Hamilton Propeller Company during WWII and later at CVS. She met and fell in love with a handsome Navy man from Texas, Bill Browning, who always said it was “love at first sight” for him. They were blessed with four children.
As a Navy family for twenty-two years, they traveled all over the United States and lived in Westerly, RI, Maryland, Jacksonville, FL, Beeville, TX and returned back to North Kingstown where her husband was then employed by Electric Boat after retiring from the US Navy.
Rose never forgot a birthday or Christmas card and gift for all. We will never forget her beautiful smile, warm embraces and her tender heartedness; and deep abiding faith and her delicious meals.
We will always remember Nana Rose as the center of the great, big, wonderful family. She was the center of her home with a perfect Mother’s heart.
She leaves two sons, William B. Browning, Jr. and his wife Arlene and Alan W. Browning and his wife Cathy; a sister Lucy Southwick; seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and several great, great-grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Patricia G. Blanchard and Lynn C. Cunningham.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 25, 2018 at 10am in St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Road, North Kingstown. Burial will follow in Elm Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours Thursday from 5-7pm in the Fagan-Quinn Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital will be appreciated.
