He is preceded in death by his parents, Wilton Lovell Bennett and Elsie Elaine Johnson as well as a sister Darceline and Lavelle Elaine Bennett. He is survived by a son, daughter in law, granddaughter, 2 sisters and 1 younger brother.
He was a beautiful baby which he even won a baby contest. He was the eldest of 6 children who was so smart that he never had to work hard in school and got good grades not even trying. As a teenager, I remember him dancing around the house drumming on everything with the music of Iron Butterfly- In A Gadda Da Vida (1968) He loved the drums. It got old because he would play it over and over drumming on anything that wouldn't move. I sure wish I could hear him play right now.
He was very tall (6'4") and when we fought as children, (as all siblings do) he would just old me back by my head with his long arms and I was swinging but couldn't reach him which would make me angrier than I already was. I think it is funny now as I picture it. Ben, went into the Navy at age 17, but he didn't like it so he got out after a very short time. When he was young, he would go out to the nearby hills and start them on fire, we would have to all go down to the fire station for a lecture each time he did it too. Funny that he became a forest firefighter (a really good one). He really loved his job until he was forced to retire early because of Lupus . He had a big heart and would do almost anything for you, especially if you were family. He will be missed by all who loved him.
