Maevis Moscelynn Dyson, 92, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Monday, July 15, 2013 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. Maevis was born on April 6, 1921 in Hutchinson, KS, the oldest of Harry and Althea Bullington's three daughters. Maevis spent her early years in Golden City, MO, where she graduated high school in 1939. She then went on to earn a teaching certificate from Southwest Missouri Teachers College. She would teach two years in a one room school house in Greenfield, MO, before moving to Kansas City, MO, to find work in order to help the war effort. She worked many years at the Osteopathic Hospital in Kansas City, MO. Kansas City is where she would meet and marry Lloyd P. Dyson on September 22, 1944 and together they would raise their two children, Cheryl and David, and call Raytown, MO, home. She was an accomplished artist working with oil paintings, calligraphy and creating China Dolls that were sold at Saks Fifth Avenue on the Country Club Plaza. Maevis was also a long time member of the Raytown Chapter of the Eastern Star. She was a devout member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and was truly a voice of God. She would pass many of her values and beliefs on to, not only family members but to, virtually everyone who had the privilege of spending time with her. Maevis was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, her parents and sister, Marylee Anderson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Ray & Cheryl Breit of Raytown, MO; her son, David of Raytown, MO; sister, Angatha June Asher of Bristal, OK; three grandchildren, Daniel Rios, Sharon Miller and Shakera Dyson; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the kind and loving Doctors and Nursing staff at Research Medical Center 3 North Unit. Thank you also to the Impeccable Nursing Care Team in the Vitas Hospice Care Unit for the incredible care you took with Maevis. Thank you for all the love, support and comfort your staff showered on our family as it has been truly appreciated. Visitation will be at 9:00 a.m. until service time at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Floral Hills Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Disabled Veterans of America. Fond memories and condolences for the family may be left at www.floralhillsfuneralhome.com.
