Randy E. Barnes of Klamath Falls died April 18, 2018 after a long battle with cancer.
He was born March 20, 1948, to Arlie and Virginia Barnes in Goldendale, Wash. The family moved frequently in his early childhood and eventually settled in Klamath Falls. Randy graduated from Klamath Union High School in 1966 and enlisted in the Navy. He served in active duty and then reserves until 1972. He was part of the fire crew aboard the USS Kearsarge and served at the base in Subic Bay, Philippines. He married Darlene Witt in 1969. The couple had two children.
After his discharge, he worked at lumber mills and as an electrician for Burlington-Northern railroad in Klamath Falls and Vancouver, Wash., until 1986. He went on to work as an electrician for various lumber companies and electrical contractors in the Klamath Falls area. He retired in 2013.
Randy was an avid hunter, joining a loyal group of family and friends at camp each fall for deer season. He valued his lifelong friendships with the Todds, the Duffys, the Devenports and the Hunters, along with many others. He also enjoyed classic cars, fishing, camping at Lake of the Woods and Western movies and books. He was a devoted grandfather. He loved the Green Bay Packers and attended a game with his son, Craig, in 2015. He was a member of VFW Post 1383, IBEW Local 659 and the Winema Hoo-Hoo Club.
He is survived by his sons, Craig (Marion) and Jeffrey; grand-daughters, Sage and Sienna; siblings, Ardith Lewis (Mike), Sherry Harden (Mitch), Lance (Sue), Kim Bourns (Steve) and Sandy Blair; in addition to numerous nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Services for Randy will be 11 a.m. May 19, 2018, at Midland Community Hall. A potluck will follow.
