Lawrence "Dale" Iverson

St. George - Our dear father, Lawrence "Dale" Iverson, left this world peacefully on Wednesday, May 2, 2018, just 5 days short of his 101st birthday, in St. George, Utah.

He was born at the George Baldwin Ranch in Moapa, Nevada on May 7, 1917; the 7th of nine children born to Peter Martin and Lillie Belle Bundy Iverson.

His family moved by wagon to Mt. Trumbull, AZ when he was just 4 months old and they lived the first year in a tent until his father could get a small home built.

He lived and went to school at Mt.

Trumbull, completing the 8th grade.

He met his sweetheart, Ruby Claudine Meecham at a dance at the old school house and they spent 65 wonderful years together, until her passing in 2005.

Dad has always been a "jack-of-all-trades", able to fix or build most anything.

He had a long and varied work career.

In his younger years, he worked in the mines near Kingman, AZ.

He worked many years in construction, dairy and farming, and spent the last 20 years, before retirement, as a groundskeeper on the golf course at the Tropicana Hotel in Las Vegas.

Always, in addition to his other jobs, he was a rancher on the original homestead on the Arizona Strip.

Dad and mom loved to travel and spent a lot of time, after retirement, touring the western United States with friends, as they visited parks and historic places.

Their favorite trips were to the old time fiddling contests and they attended many of these each year.

Dale was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He and Ruby served a 2-year mission at the St. George Care Center and he served a second mission at the Bishop's Storehouse.

He loved his family and most enjoyed spending time with the kids and grandkids.

He was very proud of them and their accomplishments.

He was an unforgettable "cowboy grandfather" to a particular generation of grandsons.

Dale is survived by his daughter-in-law, Karren Iverson; children: Larry (Carolyn) Iverson, Kenneth Iverson, Glenda (Don) Reid of St. George, Utah and Joanne (Rick) Christy of Washington, Utah; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, and oldest son, Wayne, three grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Living so many years, dad has long been the last surviving member of his family and friends.

We are sure he had a wonderful reunion with those long gone before as he joined them beyond the vail.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. George 9th Ward Chapel, 550 E. 700 So., St. George, Utah.

Visitations will be held Sunday, May 6th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 West St. George Blvd, St. George, Utah and Monday, prior to service, from 9:30-10:30 at the church.

Interment will be at the St. George City Cemetery.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Metcalf Mortuary, 435-673-4221.
