Following the war, he attended Oklahoma A&M (later Oklahoma State University), where he studied and taught Botany, Forestry and Cytology. The balance of his working years was spent practicing Forestry in Southeastern Oklahoma and central Louisiana. John and his wife, Mary, were residents of Zwolle for more than 40 years.
John was very active in the communities in which he lived. He created and organized the "Little League" baseball program in Zwolle and served actively as a coach of several teams for many years. As an avid amateur radio operator, John frequently served to relay information between families and authorities in the aftermath of natural disasters and emergencies. He held many certifications from the U.S. Red Cross and served as an instructor of emergency first aid procedures to authorities across the Ark-La-Tex region for many years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Lions Club, and frequent vocal participant in various community theatrical productions. John also served as a Deacon with the Aimwell Baptist Church there.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Mary Elizabeth Beler Loring, three daughters, Sharon Loria of Richardson, TX, Neva Foster of Hosston, LA, and Deborah Scott of Plano, TX, devoted son-in-law of many years, David Foster, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 13, 2007 in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church of Plano, Tx. Burial will follow at 3:00 PM at the National Cemetery in Dallas, Tx.
