A grandchild remembers her, "In 1947, she had a pet store on 5th Street in Philly. The house was three stories tall and on the third floor she raised canaries. She sold canaries, tropical fish, Chihuahuas (dogs and puppies), and other creatures found in a pet store. The tropical fish and Chihuahuas were raised by my grandmother too. My mother, who was definitely not an animal lover, cringed every time we visited - for I managed to bring something home every time.

I remember a short woman, as wide as she was tall with gray hair worn in a bun. A table always ladened with food and many relatives living with her. She was English, not demonstrative, with the stiff upper lip; taking whatever life dealt her and dealing with it."

Her neice in Ashland recalls, "I do have some memories of visiting Aunt Mary in Shamokin and on the Gowen City farm also I visited once in Philadelphia. Aunt Mary was a very pretty woman, had a happy disposition and we always felt welcome in her home."

Note: the pet store was probably at 3322 N. 5th Street This was the address for her second husband Victor when he died.
