Wilbur Charles Detert, 93, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, April 30, 2018 at Northbrook Manor.

As per Wilbur’s wishes there will be private family services at Czech National Cemetery.

Wilbur was born March 5, 1925 in Solon, the son of Charles and Agnes (Fisher) Detert. He attended rural school in the Sandy Beach area.

Wilbur was a dedicated farmer and gardener at his home and for Baumhoefener Nursery for many years.

He enjoyed growing roses, fishing, hunting, dancing, playing cards, listening and dancing to Czech music. Wilbur was always eager to help others, including his friends, neighbors and especially family. He was a long time member of NFO (National Farmers Organization), Farm Bureau and the Moose Lodge.

Wilbur is survived by his children Sandy Detert of Jackson, Minnesota, Ronnie (Wanda) Detert and Valencia (Darrel) Pospisil; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother Vernon Detert of North Liberty; his sister Wilma Logan of California; former wife Irene Detert of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law JoAnn Detert of Anamosa and Ruth Stark of Cedar Rapids; former longtime companion GenRose Smucker of Cedar Rapids; as well as his nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers Leonard, Norbert and Donald (Phyllis) Detert, stepson Richard Detert, his sister Martha (Edwin) Mekota, brothers-in-law Donald Logan, Ray Musil, Charles Musil and Arthur Stark, and his second wife Lorraine Detert.

Memorials may be directed to the family.
