Olive Hinson
July 07, 1921 - April 24, 2018

Olive Hinson of Tyler, Texas formerly of Palestine, passed away on Tuesday, April 24, 2018. Just 3 months shy of her 97th birthday, she lived a full life surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who adored her.

Olive was born on July 7, 1921 in Palestine, Texas to Virgil and Edith Douthit. At the tender age of 16, she married Lloyd Hinson on January 8, 1938 and lived their entire marriage on their 90+ acre farm raising cattle, chickens and vegetables. They were 11 days away from celebrating 62 years of marriage when Lloyd passed away on December 28, 1999.

She was a servant of others, taking care of her mother, sister-in-law and mother-in-law until their deaths, and assisting customers at East Texas National Bank from 1951-1984. Upon retirement, she devoted her life to caring for her husband, enjoying children and grandchildren and working the farm. She was also a faithful member and volunteer at Walston Springs Baptist Church, Emmanuel Baptist Church, and most recently Swanson Hill Community Church. Just prior to her 90th birthday, Olive suffered a debilitating stroke and moved to Tyler where she still brought joy to whoever she was around. Even as age had taken its course, she remained gentle, meek and kind; traits that had also characterized her entire life.

Olive is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd; her first-born infant daughter, Gloria Loy; her sisters, Mozelle Fox and Ezelle Conaway; and her great-granddaughter, Sadie Claire Gentry.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Frances and Randy Walker; son and daughter-in-law, David and Danette Hinson; Grandchildren: TJ and Amanda Nicholson, Aaron and Kristyn Walker, Amy and Josh Gentry, Megan and Jacob Taylor, and Daniel and Lauren Hinson. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy and she attended every graduation and wedding. She also joyfully greeted each of her 11 great-grandchildren: Jace and Adley Nicholson; Cason, Bryce and Lincoln Walker; Macy, Eden, Kate and Lucy Gentry; Shane and Nolan Taylor; and was looking forward to the arrival of three more next month: Valyn Nicole Walker, baby Nicholson and Decker Lloyd Hinson.

A celebration of her life will be held at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine, Texas, on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at 2:00 PM, with her grandson Aaron Walker officiating. Pallbearers are TJ Nicholson, Jacob Taylor, Daniel Hinson, Josh Gentry, Gerald Stubbs and Joe Conaway. Interment will be at Land of Memory in Palestine. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Bailey & Foster.

Special thanks to Carol and Staci Truskosky for the loving care and wonderful home they provided for Olive these last 18 months. If so desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local church or charity in Olive’s memory.
