Mr. Charles A. Agnew, Jr. died Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in Santa Rosa Beach. He was a husband, father and grandfather, and a raconteur of renown from Pennsylvania to Hawaii, from Virginia to Florida.
Charlie was born on 28 January 1935 to Charles Albert Agnew (Sr) and Rita Teresa Cullen, at St. Mary's Hospital in Fishtown, Philadelphia, PA. After a stint in the US Navy, Charlie returned to Philadelphia where he had the good fortune to marry Dorothea Elaine Whitelam on 30 May 1955, at St. Helena's, Olney, PA. Graduating from LaSalle College in 1961, Charlie embarked on a career with the Federal government, retiring in 1985.
Charlie loved Ireland, land of his mother's family, and held Irish citizenship. He also loved Hawaii, traveling there throughout the latter part of his life.
Most of all, Dad loved his wife, Elaine, and his children; he considered them the highest achievement of his life. He is survived by all five of his children: Teresa Elaine Dennis (Roy); Maureen Frances Kalenich (Nicholas); Charles Richard Agnew (Ellen); Catherine Ann Agnew (Ralph Gaudiuso); and John Kennedy Agnew (Katheryn). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jakob Dennis; Brian Cullen Beavers (Devis); C. Spencer Agnew; Pierce X. Agnew; Annabelle P. Agnew; Gage K. Agnew; Magdelene M. Agnew; Holt I. Agnew; and Rea Jeanne Agnew.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorothea Elaine Agnew (1934-2017); by his parents; by his brother Richard M. Agnew (1936-2001) and sister Catherine Rita Slavens (1942-2014).
