Mrs. Dorothea Elaine Agnew, age 82, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017. She was born December 19, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Frank and Magdalene Pertschi Whitelam.
Mrs. Agnew was a resident of Santa Rosa Beach. Elaine was Catholic by faith and a member of the St. Rita Catholic Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She worked as a school teacher and a college professor for many years. She attended George Mason University, receiving both her Bachelor's, and Master's Degree. Elaine served as a volunteer at the church thrift shop, and served on the Parish Council, as well as volunteering with Headstart.
Mrs. Agnew was preceded in death by her parents.
Mrs. Agnew is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Charles A. Agnew, Jr; two sons, Charles R. Agnew and wife Ellen and John K. Agnew and wife Kat; three daughters, Teresa E. Dennis and husband Roy, Reenie Beavers Kalenich and husband Nick, and Cate Agnew and husband Ralph Gaudiuso; one brother, Frank Whitelam and wife Janice; and nine grandchildren.
A special thank you to Somerby Assisted Living Facility, Grand Boulevard Health and Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast, Emerald Coast Hospice and Synergy Home Care for their kindness to the family.
A Memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, August 10, 2017, at St. Rita Catholic Church; 137 Moll Drive, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459, with Father Kevin Johnson officiating.
A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 5 p.m., Friday, August 11, 2017, at the Somerby Assisted Living Facility; 164 West Hewett Road, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459.
Burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at a later date.
Flowers are being accepted or donations may be made to the Saint Vincent DePaul Society at St. Rita Catholic Church at 137 Moll Drive, Santa Rosa Beach, Florida 32459.
