Marguerite Neale Moger, 94, of Lexington, Va., died January 25, 2007 at her home.
The daughter of the late Wayland Dunaway Neale and Mary Virginia James Neale, she was born March 1, 1912 near Bealeton, Fauquier County, Virginia. She was the widow of Allen W. Moger, former professor of history at Washington and Lee University, who died in 1988. Marguerite was a graduate of Westhampton College of the University of Richmond. After graduating, she taught elementary school in Manassas, Virginia. Later in her life she worked as an assistant in the Washington and Lee University Library and volunteered for many years at the Rockbridge Regional Library. A member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, she was formerly president of the Women of the Church. She was a member of the Rockbridge Bird Club, the Roanoke Valley Bird Club, and the Virginia Society of Ornithology. She was also a life member of the Rockbridge Historical Society. Marguerite shared with others her joy in knowing the details of nature - identifying birds, wildflowers, and trees. She was passionate about Rockbridge County, knew all the back roads, and enjoyed exploring them with anyone she could recruit to join her. To the end of her life, she engaged friends of all ages in topics of interest, including politics, the Atlanta Braves, and news of Washington and Lee and Lexington, discussing them with wit and enthusiasm. She is survived by two daughters: Alice Neale Marotti and her husband, Arthur Francis Marotti, of Huntington Woods, Michigan; and Esther Moger Stokes of Atlanta, Georgia. Her survivors include four grandchildren: William Arthur Marotti of Culver City, CA; Stephen Allen Marotti of Oakland, CA; Jessica Neale Stokes of Watertown, MA; and Elizabeth Sewell Stokes of Cambridge, MA; and two grandsons. Also surviving are her brother, Harold Paul Neale of Bealeton, Va; and three sisters: Mildred Neale Baltz of Hagerstown, MD; Jessie Neale Jensen of Huxley, IA; and Janice Neale Kehoe of Bealeton, VA. Three brothers and one sister preceded her in death.
A memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. at the Lexington Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William M. Klein officiating.
