Benjamin died Sunday, August 4, 1912 after being shot by Arthur Cook, after a night of drinking hard cider, during a wrestling contest. Arthur was reported to have been angry at Benjamin's brother Alvin and drew his pistol "snapping it several times at Coley. He was disarmed by bystanders" It seems Cook left for awhile but returned later with his brother Ernest Cook and they started "the fuss over again, shooting B. F. (Benjamin) Coley and firing several times at a man named Pittman..."
