David Allen Burke, Sr., age 73, born in Lubec but lived most of his life in Eastport and Calais, Maine passed away on February 27th at Calais Regional Hospital with many of his family and friends by his side. David was predeceased by his parents Malcolm and Violet Burke, his sister June Gardner, brothers Bruce, Byron, Malcolm and Franklin Burke as well as his son James Wesley Burke. David is survived by his wife Virginia Mae Keen Burke, his brothers Doug and John Burke, his children Joyce Ann and her husband Kevin Bushey, David Burke, Jr, Tami Jo Ripperger and boyfriend Eddie Zunck, Douglas and his wife Jennifer Burke, Heaven Burke and step-daughter Tari Lynn and her husband Jeff Barnard. David also has 19 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

David spent much of his life driving trucks for Lane Construction. For many years now he was an avid coin collector to which all of his family and friends will attest. David loved spending time with his immense family and friends. He always had a good story to tell and a coin to give anyone who showed any interest at all in his hobby. David had Ginny, his wife, bring coins to his bedside in the hospital so he could give some to the people who were helping all of us through this difficult time.

David and the Burke family are known for their Saturday afternoon poker sessions at David and Ginny's apartment. Everyone would have fun spending more time talking and making sure no one was cheating and less time playing cards. David was an avid NASCAR fan who loved Jeff Gordon from the beginning and was fond of a Busch and a Camel Light in his heyday. David did The Bangor Daily News puzzle each morning without fail. He had brains, dictionaries and plenty of people to help figure out the most sticky words.

David's graveside service will be held at Cooper cemetery on May 19, 2018. The time for the service will be announced at a later date. David will be missed by all and is now in Heaven with other family members. The Calais Advertiser, Calais, Maine - March 8, 2018.
