She was born April 4, 1920, on the family farm SW of Goff, Kansas, the daughter of John Nathan and Elsie Elizabeth Schletzbaum Leslie.
She grew up in Goff, and graduated from Bancroft High School. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and the Alter Society at the Church, Scranton, Kansas. She married Clarence Raphael Wessel, March 27, 1946, at St. James Catholic Church, Wetmore, Kansas.
They moved to a farm near Burlingame in August 1961. He died May 8, 1987.
She also was preceded in death by a son, Randy Wessel, who died December 10, 1996, two brothers, Jack and John Leslie, and three sisters, Ruth Thompson, Mary McCoy and Dora Hermesch.
Survivors include five sons, Philip Wessel, Topeka, Douglas Wessel and Terry Wessel, both of Lansing, Michael Wessel, Burlingame, and Joel Wessel, Osage City; a brother, Frank Leslie, Lawrence; a sister, Lucy Ward, Colwich; 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 25, 2007, from 6:00 to 7:30 P.M. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Scranton, Kansas, followed by a parish rosary at 7:30 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Thursday April 26, 2007 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Scranton.
Burial will be in Burlingame Cemetery.
