Thomas E. Workman, Retired Executive, Dies. Thomas E. Workman, a member of a pioneer Southern California family and son of a former mayor of Los Angeles, died Saturday after a brief illness. A native of Los Angeles, Mr. Workman was the son of the late William H. Workman, who was mayor in 1887 and 1888. His mother was the former Maria Boyle, after whose father Boyle Heights was named. He was the brother of the late Boyle Workman, president of the City Council in the 1920's. Mr. Workman was graduated from old St. Vincent's in 1910 and from Stanford University in 1915, where he won All American honors in basketball - the first athlete from Stanford so honored in any sport. In World War I he served in the aviation section of the Army Signal Corps, the nation's first air arm. Until his retirement, Mr. Workman was an executive with the California Portland Cement Co. He leaves his wife of 47 years, the former Margaret Kilgariff, and four sons, Henry K., Thomas Jr. David and Richard Workman, all of Los Angeles, and seven grandchildren. His sister, Gertrude W. Furman of Princeton, N.J., died Friday at the age of 86. Interment in Calvary Cemetery.
