Ophelia Buckley was born in spring of 1924 to Alvin and Daisy (Newbill) Drake. Her birth was recorded as May 14, 1924. On April 4, 2018, Ophelia, affectionately known as Aunt Noodie, transitioned to her heavenly home at 12:18 p.m. with family by her side.
Ophelia was married to Gene Murray Buckley on Oct. 30, 1939. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1991.
Aunt Noodie worked on the U of I campus for many years as a cook for Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Triangle Fraternity and Hendrick House.
She touched the lives of many with her smile and generosity. Noodie loved cooking, gardening, fishing and children. Aunt Noodie stated she was grateful the Lord allowed her to help raise so many children.
Ophelia Buckley was a faithful member of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church for over 70 years, until her health prevented her from attending. She was a devoted choir member and she served on the culinary ministry.
