A Good Woman Gone
Mary Murty was born in the west part of Scotland on July 12, 1859(as printed) and died at the home of her mother in Peterton, February 3, 1911, having lived 51 years, 6 months, and 22 days. She came to America with her parents when 9 years old, locating in Pennsylvania and at the age of 14 came to Kansas where she with her parents located in Peterton, coming to Burlingame two years later where she was employed at the Griswold Hotel.
On November 27, 1881, she was married to John Watts and they made their home in this city residing just south of twon, until one week prior to her death when she was moved to her mother's home in Peterton. Their union was blessed with 4 children, one o whom with her husband preceded her to the great beyond. Mrs. Watts survived her husband only 3 months and 2 days.
She was a kind and loving woman and made friends by her acquaintances.
Her illness lasted only 9 weeks during which time she was confined to her bed.
Among the many friends who are left to mourn her death are three children, John, Walter and Miss Lucy, one sister, Mrs. Jack O'Melia, one brother James and mother, all of Peterton.
The funeral services were held at the home of her mother, Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. C. E. Schiable, pastor of the Presbyterian church of this city. Interment was made in Burlingame cemetery.
Her many friends join with this office in extending their heartfelt sympathy to the family.
