Annie Elaine Haymore Watkins, 94, passed away Feb. 25, 2018, at her home in North Logan, Utah. She was born Aug. 10, 1923, in Nacozari, Sonora, Mexico. She was the fourth of nine children of David Franklin and Emma Geneva Huish Haymore.
Elaine was raised in Douglas, Arizona, where she excelled in school and as a bookkeeper for the family feed and seed business. She attended The University of Arizona and loved the academic environment. She set aside her educational ambitions to marry Reynold Watkins on Dec. 21, 1944, in the Mesa LDS Temple.
Elaine and Reynold raised 11 children in North Logan. She was a tremendous support to her husband and a strong influence on her family. She loved to serve her family, church and community. She was a lifelong learner and kept extensive files and books filled with her studies. She treasured the stories of life and enjoyed capturing the histories of the people she loved and served. She had a reverence for nature that she shared with her family and her Scouts. She was particularly effective as an 11-year-old Scout Leader, where she served for more than 35 years. She received the Silver Beaver Award for her Scouting service.
She is survived by her husband Reynold and 11 of their 12 children: Adonna Drake (Ron), Elizabeth Gill (Noel), Susan Lucas (Bob), Glen Watkins (Maurine), Phyllis Leavitt (Kim), Wayne Watkins (Lynn), Nadine Edwards (Boyd), Elaine Hawkes (Brad), Kaye Frost (Tim), Aldon Watkins (Michele) and Paula Scott (Deron); 52 grandchildren and 91 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three siblings: Mabel Todd, Marylynn Pace and Lavell Haymore.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Renee, her parents and five siblings: Lant Haymore, Leonard Haymore, Laverna Clawson, Donna Taylor and Larry Haymore.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 3, at noon at the North Logan Green Canyon Stake Center located at 1850 N. 400 East, North Logan, Utah. A visitation will be held at the church prior to the funeral from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Logan City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to the care of Allen Mortuary.
