Annie Susannah "Susan" Adams was born on September 16, 1848, in Pine Level, Alabama. She was the daughter of William Thomas Adams and Eliza Caffey. For much of her life, she attended the Pine Level Methodist Episcopal Church, where her parents are buried. On her maternal side, she was the granddaughter of the newspaper publisher William Hooper Caffey, and the great granddaughter of the Revolutionary War Patriot, John Thomas Caffey.

Susan Adams married James Uriah Ozier on April 10, 1868, in Pine Level. They had grown up next door to each other on neighboring farms, and he was a Confederate veteran of the Civil War. They had 11 children in 22 years: 8 daughters and 3 sons. She died on January 18, 1934, in Montgomery, Alabama, at the age of 85, and was buried at Greenwood Cemetery in Montgomery. She is buried next to her daughter, Eliza Jane Ozier Wright, who predeceased her, and her son Thomas Marvin Ozier was later buried adjacent to the two of them. In her older years she lived with her son, Thomas Marvin, in Montgomery. When she died, she had been a widow for 32 years, and the family story is that she did “not want to be buried in the country” at Old Salem Cemetery next to her husband. She disliked country living and preferred to be buried “in town.” Susan lived her entire life in Alabama.

Susan was a faithful and devoted wife and daughter, a sweet hearted mother, and a follower of Jesus. She was an educated and mannered woman, skilled in the social graces. Susan believed in education for women and helped all of her daughters to be well educated.
