DEATH OF A MUSCATINE OLD SETTLER IN CALIFORNIA
The Santa Rosa (Cal.) Republican of Nov. 29th announces the death of SAMUEL BAMFORD, formerly of Sweetland township, Muscatine county, which took place at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Gilbert, in Santa Rosa, Nov. 23d. Mr. Bamford resided in Iowa about forty years. He was born in Geneseo, New York, in 1808, and was 86 years old at his death. His wife died here some fifteen years ago, and five daughters survive. They are Mrs. Sarah Roy, of Glenola, Kansas; Mrs. Harvey Gregory, Mrs. Mary Lehman, Mrs. Amanda Gilbert and Miss Phoebe Bamford, the four last of California.
The mind of the deceased was clear and and his memory bright up to within a few days of his death. He suffered a stroke of paralysis, Sunday, Nov. 18, and never rallied from it. That he was a member of a long-lived family is shown by the fact that his grandfather lived to be 114 years old.
