Evans Malott “Ev” Harrell died March 10, 2018 at age 91. He is survived by Linda Tumlin Harrell, his wife of 39 years and, from their blended and extended families, 8 children, 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, numerous nieces, other relatives, and members of Linda’s family.
Upon graduating from Groton School he enrolled in the US Navy’s V-12 officer training program graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, following which Ev entered the grain, feed and flour business in Indianapolis leaving after some 20 years as President of The Early and Daniel Co. of Cincinnati. He moved to Atlanta to be engaged in land development for the Dextra Co.
Ev served on the Board of Directors of the Wainwright Bank & Trust Co. and of MetroBanCorp. He has enjoyed being a volunteer with the LGE Community Credit Union for over 30 years, serving as Chairman of the Supervisory Committee and as a director. Additionally, he was a volunteer Mentor with SCORE over 40 years and was a Past Post Commander of American Legion Post #186.
Ev loved to sail and raced Thistle Class boats, of which he is a past President. He was a Commodore of the Cowan Lake Sailing Association and the Lake Lanier Sailing Club, and a member of the Atlanta Yacht Club. He served for many years on the board of US Sailing and enjoyed being a US and International Judge of sailing events world-wide.
A memorial ‘remember’ Ev get together will be scheduled at a future time.
