Ira Lee Burris was born in Pulare, Oklahoma on February 13th, 1918, one of five daughters to Mary Frances Parker and Siras Tildon Griffith. Married in 1934 to Dale Conley, she raised six boys: Curtis, Freddy, Jack, Jerry, Bill, and Donnie. Years later in 1970, she remarried to Wade Burris and they made their home in Salina, Oklahoma. Moving back to Catoosa, Ira Lee was known for her famous fried chicken, delicious cobblers, and chicken and dumplings. She loved to have a kitchen full of good food, and even better company. When she was not cooking, Ira Lee loved to fish and play bingo. Above all else, she loved her boys, and her many grandchildren: great and great-great.
For the last seven years, Ira Lee resided in the Rolling Hills Care Center in Catoosa, Oklahoma. She had visitors almost every day and she loved to tell them stories about her life. She loved to play dice and card games, solitaire being one of her favorites, and would often play—and usually win--farkle with her sons and grandkids. She was a social butterfly and was loved dearly by all residents and staff.
Ira Lee is preceded in death by her six sons. She is survived by daughters in law Eva Conley, Betty Conley, Brenda Conley, Delores Conley, Sheilda Conley and her many grandchildren and their children. She will be missed dearly, but her ferocity, wit, and wisdom will live on in our hearts forever.
