Charles “Buddy” Freday, age 86, of Canton, died Tuesday in his home surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. A life resident of Stark County, he had spent the first 12 years of his life at the Fairmount Children's Home in Alliance. He was a 1950 graduate of Minerva High School, served in the U.S. Air Force as a medic during the Korean War and in 1991 retired from Republic Steel. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter's Holy Name/Men's Club, a former member of Holy Martyrs Council #4733 K of C, where he served as publicity chairman, a current member of Canton Council #341 K of C, the American Legion and the Korean War Veterans Buckeye Chapter #81. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son: Charles M. Freday; daughter: Dolores Ritenour; brothers: Russell Freday, Leslie Freday, Louis Freday, William Freday and sister: Sonya Pfalzgraf. He is survived by his wife: Carol (Hambach) Freday; sons: Brian Freday Sr., Kevin (Victoria) Freday Sr., brothers: Donald (Virginia) Freday, Richard (Barbara) Freday, Niles Freday, Michael (Sandy) Freday; sisters: Dorothy Boydelatour, Susan Testa; grandchildren: Kevin (Amanda) Freday Jr., Brian Freday Jr., Tabetha (Eric) Moore, Tyler Laney, Isabella Freday, Mathew Laney, Samantha Laney, Brittany Freday, Catherine Laney and 6 great-grandchildren. Mass of Christain burial will be Tuesday at 10:00 am in St. Peter Catholic Church with Fr. Edward L. Beneleit as celebrant. Burial with military honors will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens.
