Walter E. Bright, age 87, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison. Born May 20, 1930 in Jefferson County, Indiana, he was the son of John C. and Clara (Mellick) Bright.

Mr. Bright was a 1950 graduate of Central High School. He was a carpenter, having owned Bright Woodworking in Columbus before moving back to the Madison area in 2000. He also worked for Cummins, Inc. for eight years.

Mr. Bright served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1954 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Boxer. Following his service in the US Navy, he lived in California for several years.

He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, the Carpenter's Union and the Madison Senior Citizens Center. He enjoyed traveling.

Mr. Bright will be sadly missed by two sisters: Anna Hereford and her husband, George of Milton, Kentucky and Jean Trester and her husband, Dick of Lewiston, Minnesota; two brothers: Allen Bright and his wife, Ruth Ann of Hanover, Indiana and Donald Bright of Lakeside, California; his companion of ten years, Patty Imel of Madison; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Ora Weidman; and two brothers: Richard and Wayne Bright.

Reverend Andrew Hoskins will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 24, 2018 at Macedonia Baptist Church, North Greenbriar Road, Madison, with interment to follow in Macedonia Cemetery.

Friends and family may call at the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM Friday, February 23, 2018, and from 10:00 AM until the time of service on Saturday at the church.

The Honor Guard of Jefferson Post #9, American Legion, Madison will conduct military graveside services.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Macedonia Baptist Church or Macedonia Cemetery. Contributions may be made at the church or at any of the Lytle Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
