Coach Ronnie Anderson, 82, of Orange, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2018, in Broussard, Louisiana in the care of his son and daughter-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 10, 2018, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange. Officiating will be Reverend Barry Bradley of First Baptist Church in Orange. Family will begin receiving guests at 9:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., Friday, at Claybar Funeral Home in Orange.

Born on September 6, 1935, he was the son of RW Anderson and Mattie Lou Anderson. Ronnie graduated from Orangefield High School and went to college on a basketball scholarship at Howard College in Big Spring, Texas. He then transferred to Sul Ross State College in Alpine, Texas where he received his Bachelor’s Degree before getting his Master’s Degree at Stephen F. Austin University. During college he became interested in baseball and went on to start his coaching career at Orangefield High School in 1959. In 1960 he decided to become a part of the West Orange Chief’s as Head Baseball Coach. During his time at West Orange he was principle for 7 years. Ronnie then continued his coaching career with the merge of schools into the West Orange-Stark Mustangs where he retired after 31 years. Coach Andy had a passion for not only the development of his student athletes, but he also reached out to other community student athletes and helped them to succeed as well. He loved deer hunting, fishing, and golfing with his family and friends. Ronnie was a wonderful person and loved his family dearly. He will be missed by so many, but his legacy lives on.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth Lucille Anderson; his second wife, Wilma Jane Anderson; his sister, Ruth Lynelle Scales; and his brother, Keith William Anderson.

Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Ryke Wynne Anderson and wife Gina, of Broussard, LA; step-son, James “Jimmy” Monaco and wife Sharon, of San Antonio; grandchildren, Ryant Wynne Anderson, Ragan Wayne Anderson, Alaina Suzanne Hennigan, and Lauren Ashley Cormier, Tanicia Anne Gonzales, James Brodie Monaco, and Devin Taylor Monaco and wife Lucille; great-grandchildren, Gage Julian Gonzales and Isabella Kay Marie Gonzales; his brother, Donald Lee Anderson and wife Mary, of San Antonio; and his brother-in-law, Harold Scales, of Bridge City.

In lieu of flowers, the family would greatly appreciate donations be made to a Go Fund Me account that has been set up in memory of Coach Ronnie Anderson to benefit the West Orange-Stark Mustang Baseball Athletic Program. (Link for Go Fund Me page will be added as soon as available)
