PEKIN ~ William James Schnitker, 89, of Pekin, passed away at 12:50 p.m. Saturday, January 27, 2018 at his home.

Born October 29, 1928 in Pekin to Herman and Anna (Dringenberg) Schnitker, he married Rosemary M. Arnold in 1955 in Pekin. She preceded him in death on January 10, 2018. He also was preceded in death by one brother, one sister, and two great-grandchildren.

Surviving are one daughter, Kelly (Scott) Woodmancy of Manito; two sons, Shannon (Gerry) Schnitker and David Schnitker, both of Manito; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

William was of the Catholic faith.

He had served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He had worked as a welder for Caterpillar, Inc. for over 30 years, retiring in 1986.

An avid outdoorsman, he loved to duck hunt, fish and trap. He was quite the gardener and made fish ponds and fountains for his gardens.

His graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 1, 2018 at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Frank Brozenec will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the United States Army and the Tazewell Area Ceremonial Team. There will be no visitation. Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society at 4234 N. Knoxville Ave. Peoria, IL 61614.
