Private Alexander B. York died on June 11, 1862 at Lynchburg General Hospital # 2. He joined the 24th Georgia Regiment Company E of the Rabun County Volunteers on August 24, 1861. He was the son of Jeffrey York and Sarah Dunlap York.
His brother Private John Benson York joined the 24th Georgia Regiment Company E of the Rabun County Volunteers in August 1862 after hearing of his brothers death. He died on March 7, 1863 at Chimborazo Hospital # 2 in Richmond, Va. He was survived by his wife Sarah Chastain York and six children and one son born three months after his death.
