NEWSPAPER - OGDEN DRIVER KILLS YOUTH
Turns Back and Runs Directly In Front of Machine
SALT LAKE, Oct. 16.--Willard Hitesman, 9 years old, son of Mr. and Mrs. David S. Hitesman, 359 West Fifth North street, was fatally injured late Thursday afternoon when he was struck by an automobile driven by Gilbert Franklin Hunt, of 3054 Washington avenue, Ogden. The boy was picked up by Mr. Hunt and rushed to the emergency hospital, but life was extinct when that institution was reached.
TURNS BACK
The accident occurred on Second West street about 15 yards south of the intersection with Eighth North street. Hunt was driving south when the boy started to run across the street. Witnesses told investigating officers that the lad evidently had decided he would not be able to cross the street in front of a northbound street car and turned back when he was part way across.
HEAVY BLOW
When the boy stopped and turned back, Hunt swerved his automobile in an effort to avoid striking him, but was unable to do so, and the boy was hit by the front part of the machine. He was thrown to the street and suffered a fracture of the skull and other injuries. He is survived by his parents, eight sisters and two brothers.
