Gordon met his lifelong sweetheart at Lou's Drive-In. Her name was Marla Miller. He asked her out to a movie and their romance led to their marriage in 1963. They enjoyed 54 years of marriage.
Gordon and Marla had three children: Mark Courtney of Grand Rapids, Mich., Kristi Wear (Roy) of St. Maries, and Shane Courtney (Michelle) of Lewiston. They have three grandchildren: Courtney Wear, Cody Wear and Katelynn Courtney.
Potlatch Corp. was Gordon's first job, and he worked on the log pond and as a purchasing agent.
In 1985, he purchased a shoe repair business and titled it Gordon's Shoe Repair. This lined up with his passion for leather craft and other craft-based skills. He made many friends in that shoe shop and it became the place to go for custom hand-crafted goods.
Gordon received Jesus into his life at age 28 at Orchards Community Church. He served as a Sunday school teacher, vocal soloist, bus driver and church deacon. He attended Tammany View Baptist Church. He always loved to tell people about Jesus and how they could have a relationship with Him.
He battled lung cancer for five years and passed away at his home Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Marla; and brothers Lawrence Courtney (Rita), Dale Courtney (Marlene) and Gene Courtney (Vickie).
