Michael J. Manion Sr., Mike or Mickey to friends and family, passed away peacefully on February 18, 2015, at Brookdale Memory Center. He was 81 years old and survived by his wife Mary and their three sons, Michael, Kevin and Brian, eight grandchildren and a brother and sister. With two brothers and two sisters in an Irish Catholic family, Mike was born in Philadelphia but lived in Charlotte nearly all his life, growing up in Dilworth and attending O'Donoghue School through high school, where he met Mary. He served in the United States Army in Germany and then attended Belmont Abbey College. Mike Manion and Mary Fitzpatrick were married in 1957 at St. Patrick's. After a four-year residence in Fort Wayne Indiana, they returned to live in Charlotte. Mike was a successful salesperson throughout his career in pharmaceuticals and industrial products. His work often required travel throughout the United States but his true life's work was always about his family's well being and the support, love and encouragement of his sons, their own careers and families.

A memorial mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 11 am at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church an inurnment will follow. The family offers heartfelt thanks to the staff of Brookdale South Park and Sherry and Dan of Hospice. Donations may be sent to St. Vincent de Paul Church, Hospice or SPCA.
