Gary Kenneth Jacobson, 78, of Eveleth, formerly of Gilbert, died Friday, January 5, 2018, at Essentia Health –Virginia.

Gary was born on November 3, 1939, in Eveleth to Kenneth Gerald and Mary Loretta (Sloto) Jacobson. Gary resided in Genoa location and graduated from Gilbert High School in 1957. He attended college at University of Minnesota, Duluth where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Education. Gary served our country as a member of the National Guard. Gary was united in marriage to Mary Lou Indihar on October 24, 1959, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Gilbert, Minnesota. They resided in Gilbert, where they raised their family. Gary was an Industrial Arts teacher at Nashwauk High School and then at Gilbert High School until he retired in 1989. Gary was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Gary was adored by his students and was the student advisor for many graduating classes. Gary was the primary caregiver for his wife, Mary Lou, who had multiple sclerosis. Gary enjoyed telling stories, spending time with his family and friends (especially the grandchildren), going on outings, and spending time at the family cabin on Ely Lake.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Kenneth Gerald Jacobson (1976) and Mary Loretta Jacobson (2000); his sister, Judith Mary Laguban (1994); and his wife, Mary Lou (2013).

Gary is survived by his brother, Thomas (Jackie); one son, Scott (Patty); two daughters: Kris (Cliff) Smith, and Amy (Mark) Sorenson; seven grandchildren:Christa Dormanen, Kenny Jacobson, Paul (Jennifer) Jacobson, Shannon (Dan) Mackey, Lauren Schams, Alyssa Sorenson, and Nicole Sorenson; and seven great-grandchildren.

Burial will be in the Gilbert Cemetery.
