Find a Grave ID

Bio

I live in Northeastern Minnesota on the Iron Range. I started to contribute on Find a Grave for my family members & am now entering the entire Gilbert MN cemetery on FaG by taking photos of each stone & then either entering them in existing FaG memorials or creating new Memorial IDs if needed. I take photos of every stone in a section or two when I drive by & have time (& cooperative weather). Now that it's late October (2021) & everything in the cemetery will be buried in snow soon, I will have to finish in summer 2022. I try to make sure the photos are in focus so you can read the info but it's difficult to see the phone screen on sunny days. I know that reading the info on the stones is why family tree researchers look at websites like FaG. Plus, I am just reading from the photos when I enter them. I haven't done any digging yet - that's the job of the cemetery staff in my opinion. I always try to help if I can - I am just a Find a Grave beginner though! I do not know anything other than what's written on the stones for the memorials I create for non-family. This is all voluntary & I am not on a computer or phone all the time, so it might take me time to get edit requests completed. FaG will automatically update if I don't notice a message. * If you find your family member in my list, I am more than happy to transfer your family's Memorials to you. *Some tips I picked up from other contributors: Remember a lot of headstones do not have the correct dates & I don't know everyone's specific details. I do not have a paid membership to family tree or obituary/newspaper websites. I will add/edit/create Memorials for the photos I take, but I don't have access to everyone's data to add more than what's on the stones. I have made lots of Memorial IDs for non-family members & have had some transferred to me, so I am happy to transfer you one of your relatives. If you send me an edit & type in an obituary or other details, I will post it for you (it just might take a little while). USE THE EDIT TAB WHEN REQUESTING A TRANSFER, DON'T SEND A MESSAGE! Tell me how you are related, blood relatives, extended relatives or friendship. ** BE SURE TO INCLUDE YOUR CONTRIBUTOR # ** . It makes it easier for me to make the transfer to you & you are already at the memorial page & have the numbers in front of you. Including your # makes it so I don't have to look it up. Thanks! I will approve transfer requests for memorials that are not in my personal family tree. *** USE THE EDIT TAB to alert me of incomplete or incorrect dates or spellings & to link parents & spouses or to merge duplicates. I'm only human & don't always catch errors since I am inputting stone info on the non-family members. You can save my headstone & footstone photos. I have taken photos so family researchers who are far away can access them as I appreciate finding my extended family grave photos who are far from me. I photograph them as they are & I am not a professional. I do try to get all of the writing in photos & do often take closer photos of headstones so you can read them & farther away photos to show the whole thing. For example, if there isn't a footstone & everything is on the headstone, I will take the whole stone & then the writing. I try to get the whole footstone, but I am not a cemetery employee. I am also not a stone cleaner, I will gently move grass clippings, but don't want to damage the stones. I will try to get good photos but sometimes there's flowers & other items there too. Obviously, winter photo requests will not happen until the summer since many local Northern Minnesotan cemeteries do not plow the cemeteries in winter. Plus, everything is under snow.
