Born in Edinburg, Virginia, he was a son of the late George W. and Lena C. Ring. Upon graduation from Elon College in 1929 he was hired as a chemist by DuPont at its Waynesboro, VA plant. In 1952 DuPont transferred him to its May plant in Camden, SC. In 1965 he was transferred back to Waynesboro where he retired in 1969 after 40 years of service. He moved to Richmond in 1992.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Sallie McClung Ring in 1983. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are three sons: Giles E. Ring, Jr. of Virginia Beach, VA, B. Kirk Ring and his wife Nancy of Richmond, and James M. Ring and his wife Patricia of Richmond; two grandchildren: Tracy R. Berry and Giles M. Ring, both of Richmond, and one great grandson, Jackson G. Berry of Richmond. Also surviving is his remaining sister, Frances R. Edgar of Strasburg, VA.
Masonic rites will be given by Lee Lodge #209 at 7:00 PM Monday, January 9 at McDow Funeral Home, after which the family will receive friends until 8:30 PM.
A Graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Tuesday at Augusta Memorial Park by Dr. Jon Lovelady.
