Civil War Veteran Services Today
Final rites for James Sedgewick, 93, oldest Madera county Civil war veteran who died at a local hospital Wednesday morning following a brief attack of pneumonia, were observed this afternoon from the Madera Funeral Home chapel with Rev. Ralph Cox of the Episcopal church officiating.
Graveside services, under the joint auspices of the Spanish War Veterans and the American Legion followed at the Arbor Vitae cemetery. He was a member of the Sons of the Grand Army of the Republic, the Spanish-American War Veterans and the American Legion. The veteran is survived by three nieces, Mrs. Bessie Kasmates, of Lodi, Miss Marion Shaldion of Stockton and Miss Edith Webster of Philadelphia: and one uncle, William Wesling. The pallbearers were Jerry Wilbers Coursey of Fresno, J. J. Simons of Fresno, W. T. Brooks of Fresno, Steven S. Olsen, Mason A. Bailey and L. L. White of Madera. Mrs. C. M. Curry sang.
