Esthermae Goodrich, 87, of Zanesville died at 11:10 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at Cedar Hill Care Center. She was born March 13, 1917 at Crooksville, Ohio and resided there for fifty years. She was the daughter of Doctor D. And Gladys Pollock Goodrich. Miss Goodrich was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and Weslyan Circle. She graduated from Ohio University in 1938 and 1948, with a bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education and Reading Therapist. Her Masters Degree were from The Ohio State University in Education and Music in 1952. Her career in teaching began at Jacksontown in 1938, and continued in Muskingum Co. Schools the next five years. She came to the Zanesville City Schools in 1943 and retired in 1976 with 38 years of teaching. She also worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in x-ray, and medical records departments. She was also on the staff of the Zanesville Signal. Miss Goodrich taught music for many years and was a well known musician, and director of local church choir, ending her career as a reading therapist. Her activities include, past chief of Crooksville Morning Star Temple Pythian Sisters No # 242, former president of Crooksville Business and Professional Women, and Association for Childhood Education, the International Reading Association, O E A and life member of National Educational Organizational, Chairman of Zanesville Concert Association. Her present activities include, Thursday Music Club, past president of Zanesville Business and Professional Women's Club, past District Director and State Board member for six years of B.P.W. , past president of Chautaugua Reading Circle , and vice president of American Association of University Women, She is past secretary of Timber Run Grange and a seventh Degree member of Grange. Miss Goodrich is a past president of the Increase Matthews House Museum of Pioneer and Historical Society and a 20 year member of the Junior Bethesda League, a charter member of Muskingum County Arthritis Board, She was chairman of the Ohio Music Association from 1960-1965 for Junior High Music. Also served on the Advisory Board of Citizens Advisory for Juvenile Center from 1963-1969. In 1973-1974 she was a Jennings Scholar at Ohio University- Athens, Ohio. She was past president of the Friendship Club, charter member, and on Board of Directors of A.A.R.P. and fifteen years on the local Arthritis Board.
She is survived by several cousins. A caring cremation has taken place.
