Germaine Benicewicz, 98, of Danbury, CT, passed away Wednesday evening, Dec. 20, 2017 at Filosa Nursing and Rehabilitation in Danbury. She was the wife of the late Matthew Benicewicz.
Germaine was born in Quebec, CN to the late Pierre and Antoinette LeTourneau Toussant. She immigrated to the United States as a child and attended St. Joseph School in Danbury. As a young woman she worked in the hatting industry.
Germaine was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother; she was a member of St. Joseph Church in Danbury. She liked taking road trips, especially vacationing in Cape Cod, as well as sitting in her backyard enjoying nature and having a cup of tea.
Germaine will always be remembered for her sense of humor and love for her family.
Survivors include her daughters: Elaine Fortino and her husband, Bob, of North Branford, CT; Gloria Nissly and her husband, Martin, of Danbury; and Janet Pelletier of Guilford, CT. Her grandchildren: Nicole (Christopher) Spencer, David Fortino, Martin Nissly, Jr., Monica (Raymond) Barrett, Holly (William) Broadhurst, Jill (Erik) Amalfitano and Lisa (Jack) Bradshaw. Seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Germaine is also survived by her siblings: Georgette Talbot and Ferdinand Toussaint. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her husband and parents, Germaine was predeceased by her daughter, Eleanor Molinaro, as well as her siblings: Joseph, Henry, Phillip, Renee, Emma, Adriene, Yvonne, Luciene and Imelda.
The family would like to extend their deep appreciation to Filosa Nursing and Rehabilitation for their wonderful care during Germaine's stay there.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2017 at St. Joseph Church, Danbury, with the Rev. Samuel V. Scott, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. - 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2017 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
