Mrs. Sallie Shenk
Ottawa-Mrs. Sallie Shenk, 88, Ottawa, died late Friday, Jan. 11, at an Ottawa retirement home.
She was born July 12, 1896, at Gridley, the daughter of Clark and Lizzie Seymour Haughn. She spent most of her life in the Rantoul community.
Mrs. Shenk was a member of Ruhamah Baptist Church at Rantoul.
She was married to Cletus J. Shenk Nov. 8, 1916, at Ottawa. He died March 8, 1969. A daughter, Mrs. Nina Fisher, died in 1954, and a son, Jackson Shenk, died in 1980.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Eunice Strickland and Mrs. Gladys Paul, both of Ottawa; two sons, John Shenk, Ottawa and William C. Shenk, Wadsworth; three brothers, L. C. Haughn, Ottawa, Charles Haughn, Texas City, and Dick Haughn, Wichita; 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Ruhamah Cemetery at Rantoul. Mrs. Shenk will lie in state from 5 p.m. today until noon Tuesday at Dengel and Son Mortuary in Ottawa where the family will meet with friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Monday. Memorial contributions may be made to Ottawa Retirement Village in care of the mortuary or village.
