James Earl Muntz was born on December 24, 1929 in Bonaparte, IA to Frankie and Marjorie Russell Muntz. He attended school in Bonaparte before entering the workforce. In January of 1952, Jim enlisted in the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Korean War and became an Army Corporal before his honorable discharge in January of 1954. Shortly after returning home he was united in marriage to Virginia Douthart. Jim was a hard worker and always had a job to help support his growing family. He worked at the Bonaparte Rendering Plant, as well as for several famers; Wayne King, Bob Granaman, Harlan and John Myers, and John Davidson. Later in life he also worked for the Packwood Elevator. Virginia passed away in April of 1990. On April 20, 1996 Jim married Zelma Thompson in Packwood, IA. The two remained by each others side until Jims passing. Jim enjoyed watching NASCAR races, collecting Dale Earnhardt memorabilia, farming, and above all, spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Virginia (1990); one stepson, Kenneth Douthart; a grandson, Jeffrey Allen Muntz, two great grandsons, and one brother, Milo Muntz.
Left to share his story is his loving wife, Zelma Muntz of Fairfield, IA; seven children, Danny (Jean) Douthhart of Georgia, Debbie (Bill) Connor of Monroe, IA, Vickie (Mike) Heald of Fairfield, IA, Randy (Bev) Muntz of Pekin, IA, Richard (Pam) Muntz of Agency, IA, Rusty (Susan) Muntz of Fairfield, IA, and Kristi (Chester) McKim of Libertyville, IA; four stepchildren, Larry (Patty) Wallingford of Keokuk, IA, Gary (Denise) Wallingford of Burlington, IA, Jamee (Marla) Wallingford of Farmington, IA and Julie (David) McElderry of Libertyville, IA; he was also the proud grandfather to twenty-four grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren, as well as many extended family and friends.
