Frances Maxine Vanderpool Johnson Strawn was the d/o Paul James and Linda Bess Williams Vanderpool and was born in Melbourne, Daviess, MO. She was the sister to Grace Lillian Vanderpool Munns. Fran grew up in Kansas until she moved to Denver, CO where she met her future husband, Dee Johnson who was stationed there for a while during WWII in the Army Air Corps. He was later transferred to Salt Lake City where they were married July 22, 1943. She lived with her parents while Dee was overseas. She was expecting their first child and gave birth to their son, Ronald Dee while back in Kansas with her folks. It was here when she received word Dee's plane had been shot down and he was captured by the Germans and placed in Stalag 17B POW camp for 14 months. Dee was liberated by Patton's army in May of 1945 and returned home to his family. They all moved to Baytown, Harris, TX where she spent most of the rest of her life. In May, 1946, she gave birth to their second child, Carole Jeanne. Mother was a talented organist and was the organist at St. John's Methodist Church for some time. She taught us the great love of music. She lost her loving husband in November 1963, and married Gregory Strawn, a long time family friend in 1993 when they moved to New Braunfels, Comal Co., TX. She and Gregory were married less than one year when she passed away in April of 1994. She is greatly missed and we loved her very much.
