John Emory Alexander, Sr., 86, of Salem, passed on Monday, Decmeber 15,1997 born in Catawba, Va. and was the son of the late William Alexander and Mattie Blaney Alexander Meade.

He retired from both General Electric and Valleydale Inc. and was a member of The Shiloh Baptist Church of Salem where he served as a Trustee.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Carnita Price.

He is survived by his wife, Grace Morrison Alexander, of Salem; one daughter, E. Grace Williams, Salem; two sons, John E. Alexander Jr., Roanoke and Maynard (Linda) Alexander, Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Mrs. Willie Thompson, New York, N.Y.; eleven grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and a host of neices, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 18, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church, Salem with the Rev. Adrian Dowell and Rev. Enos Glaspie officiating. Interment will follow in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 17, 1997 from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Shiloh Baptist Church. Arrangements are being handled by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
