Ted Michael Dement, 74, of Clyde, Texas went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, November 19, 2017. He was surrounded by his family and loved ones as he began his journey home. Ted was able to live in his home the later years of his life attended by his loving wife Jane and his family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church of Clyde with Rev. Marvin Gregory and Rev. Monty Barnett officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. in the Spring Creek Cemetery in Avoca under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home of Clyde. Visitation will be held from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.

Ted was born December 30, 1942 in Abilene to A.G. and Lucille (Parnell) Dement.

He was a 1961 graduate of Haskell High School and then attended McMurry University.

He married his high school sweetheart, Jane Bell of Haskell, on September 28, 1963 in Avoca. They were blessed with two sons, Joel Vinson and John Michael, both of Clyde.

Ted worked at the Abilene Reporter News while supporting his continuing education. He later owned Quality Cooling and Heating in Abilene, along with Bob King and brother-in-law/best friend Ernie Park. He was a member and officer in Interact, an organization of business owners in Abilene.

As a longstanding member of Clyde First United Methodist Church, Ted served on many leadership committees within the church. He had been an active member of the Believers Sunday School Class since 1970.

After his retirement, he enjoyed raising cattle on his ranch in Baird with his brother-in-law Ernie Park.

Ted loved being involved in all of Joel and John's activities growing up, including boy scouts, athletics, hunting, fishing and camping.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation for the loving care of Hendrick Hospice of Abilene.

Ted is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jane Dement of Clyde; two sons, Joel Dement and wife Jamie of Clyde and John Dement and wife Elaine of Clyde; sister Cynthia White and husband Jay of Belton; brother-in-law, Doug Black of Albuquerque, New Mexico; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Susan Black.

Memorial donations may be made to the Clyde First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimers Association.
