FAYETTEVILLE - Mr. Brooks Ray Grimes, Sr., of Fayetteville, died Saturday, June 24, 2017.

He was born July 8, 1932, to the late Willie Carson and Naomi Mahler Grimes of Hope Mills. He was the youngest of their six children and their fifth son. After graduating high school, he worked for Colonial Stores until his enlistment in the United States Air Force. He served in the Air Force for nine years, and he retired from the United States Post Office after thirty years service as a letter carrier.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at 2:00 pm at the Northview Baptist Church. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 1:45 pm at the church.

Mr. Grimes was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Madeline. He is survived by his sons, Brooks, Jr. and wife Doris of Fayetteville, Stanley Grimes and wife Sherry of Fayetteville, and Carson Grimes and wife Angela of Wilmington; 6 grandchildren, Chadwick Grimes and wife Jennifer of Beaver Creek, OH, Jonathan Grimes and wife Jenna of Fayetteville, Heather Lenderman and husband Paul of Oxnard, CA, Sarah Weaver and husband Todd of Santa Barbara, CA, Michael Grimes and wife Kelly of Destin, FL and Joshua Evers of Aberdeen, MD, and 15 great-grandchildren.

Brooks Grimes, Sr. was an active member of the Northview Baptist Church for twenty-four years and he left this world with an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ. According to the Scriptures, he is now absent from the body and present with the Lord.
