Johelen Ratcliff Poindexter, 80, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2017, at her home in Houston, Texas. She was born in Colmesneil, Texas on June 28, 1937, to Jay and Fay Ratcliff.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 44 years Wesley Poindexter, her sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Elvin Gibson, brother-in-law Jerry Poindexter, and brother-in-law William Poindexter. She is survived by her dear children Alan Poindexter of Houston and Karen Hubbard of Angleton; her precious granddaughter Lauren Poindexter and sweet grandsons Remington and Parker Hubbard; her beloved former daughter-in-law Andrea Wirt; and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Johelen graduated from Stephen F. Austin University with a BBA degree and taught for 6 years at Jeff Davis High School in Houston before becoming a full-time, stay-at-home mother, being active in all her family's activities. She was a long time member of Temple Oaks Baptist Church where she taught children's Sunday School class for several years and later was a Sunday morning greeter.
Johelen always had a smile on her face. She dearly loved God, her country, her family, her neighbors and friends. She survived breast cancer twice and bravely fought Hodgkin's Lymphoma with Paraneoplastic Syndromes while on Hospice.
Visitation will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017, from 10-11 am at Temple Oaks Baptist Church. The service will follow at 11 am. Graveside service and internment will be at Colmesneil at 3:30 pm.
