Elna Farnsworth Baker was born November 2, 1907 in Colonia Chuhuichupa, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the fourth and last surviving of 12 children born to Raymond Alonzo Farnsworth and Bertha Mandana Martineau. She honored her parents by the life she lived.
On January 8, 1926 she married Alfred Henry Baker with whom she enjoyed seventy-four years of happy marriage. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She moved to Mesa in October 1938.
She was a devoted wife and mother. Her specialty was babies and children, their care and upbringing. Many have had her loving, guiding arms around them as her home was always open, especially to the sick and down-trodden. Her home was very valuable to her and she was a homemaker to the top degree. She acquired fame as the best of bread makers and for the many, many quilts she made, especially that of the double wedding ring design.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Elna Rae Bernardi, and two granddaughters. Survivors are a daughter, Louise Flake, and son, Alfred of Snowflake, sons: William, Charles, and Kelly of Mesa, and son, David, of Layton, Utah; 35 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 28, 2001 from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Bunker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa. The funeral service will be Friday, June 29, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. at the Olive Ward, 525 E. 2nd Ave., Mesa, with visitation also 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
