Alfred Henry Baker, 94, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on March 12, 2000. He was born in Chichupa, Colonia Chihuahua, Mexico on July 17, 1905.
He was a graduate of Juarez Stake Academy and came to Mesa in June 1938. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many leadership capacities. He was a Mesa Stake youth leader, one of the Seven Presidents of Seventy, Sunday School President, and High Priest Group Leader.
He had numerous occupations in his life, retiring after 30 years as foreman of the Electrical department of Williams Air Force Base. He was active in athletics and an organizer of youth softball and baseball leagues. He played, coached, and supported. He was very instrumental in the credit union movement and was on the board of numerous credit unions at their inception, one being Arizona Federal Credit Union in Mesa.
Mr. Baker is survived by his wife, Elna; daughter, Louise Flake; sons Alfred H. Baker, Jr., William E. Baker, Charles V. Baker, Kelly Baker, David W. Baker; 37 grandchildren; 69 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 16, 2000 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Banker's Garden Chapel, 33 N. Centennial Way, Mesa, AZ and Friday, March 17, 2000 from 9-10 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Olive Ward, 525 E 2nd Avenue, Mesa, AZ, with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 a.m.
