"Edward Ferris Black, 78, passed away August 20, 1998 in Salt Lake City.
Born October 13, 1919 in Durango, Colorado to Daniel Luther and Hazel Tryon Black. Married Alice Rose Ames, January 7, 1939. Marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 18, 1961. Served in Army 77th Division in World War II. Wounded on Okinowa, received a Purple Heart. Member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Former officer in the organization of the Purple Heart.
Survived by wife; children, Rollo Edward (Ann) Black, Rochester, NY; Janice Rose (Mayo) DeMille, West Valley City; Carol Davis, Salt Lake City; Alice Ileen (Alan) Black, Murray; Edeen (Richard) Peacock, Woods Cross; Rafe (Rinda) Black, Salt Lake; Kenneth (Teri) Black, Salt Lake; Richard (Judy) Black, Kaysville; 40 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; brothers, Leon Black, Karl Black; sister, Leeta Black.
Funeral services will be held Monday, August 24, 1998 at 11 a.m. at the Holladay 14th Ward, 4917 So. Viewmont Street. Friends and family may call Sunday at Memorial Estates Mortuary, 5850 So. 9th East, from 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment,
Holladay Memorial Park. Funeral directors,
Cottonwood Mortuary."
