Shirley Mae (Gendron) Manegre was called by God to join her beloved husband of 62 years, on October 30, 2017.

Shirley was born June 21, 1930 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Doris and Alfred Gendron. Shirley lived the military lifestyle for 25 years, traveling and living both overseas and making homes in Illinois, Missouri and Wisconsin, but eventually she settled back where her heart belonged-St. Louis. While raising her family, she worked nights to care for her children during the day, in retail and volunteering at hospitals. She retired from Kohl’s at the age of 77.

Shirley was especially devoted to her mentally disabled daughter whom she cared for right up until her death, never relinquishing the responsibility that she thought should be her own.

Shirley was preceded in death by her decorated United States Marine Corps husband Robert Joseph Manegre in 2010, also 2 grandsons Charles in 2008 and Christopher 1983. Together Robert and Shirley raised 9 children and each of them Thomas, Robert, Mary, David, Kathleen, Barbara, Michael, Nancy and Teresa are left grieving for the loss of their mother. While happy to have her go join their father for eternity they are left with a feeling of tremendous loss for the mother they adored. Having met her 15 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren she was ready to join her Lord and Savior.

Shirley will be celebrated with a mass at 10 o’clock in the morning on Monday, November 6th at All Saints Catholic Church, St. Peter’s, where she was a loyal parishioner for the last 21 years. Following the mass Shirley will be transported like a queen, as deserved, to be laid beside her husband at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.

Always to be remembered but never forgotten-her legacy will live on through those of us that loved her greatly, aspired to be like her, and wanted nothing more than to make her proud. She always said she was so lucky to have the family she did. However, her family feels they were the lucky ones to have been able to call her their wife, mother and grandmother. Rest In Peace Mom.My mother: The oldest of two children of Arthur & Doris (Atkinson) Gendron. She was born in Springfield, Mass where she graduated from the High School of Commerce 1948. She had met Bob in 1946 and they were married on her 18th birthday, June 21, 1948. They were married at the St. Francis Xavier Chapel chapel at Camp Lejuene. They had nine children; Thomas, Robert A., Mary, David, Kathleen, Barbara, Michael, Nancy & Teresa. She was grandmother to 16 & great-grandmother to 2 at the time of her death.

She worked retail for decades, finally retiring from Kohl's clothing store in 2013 just short of her 83rd birthday. She spent her last years volunteering at a local hospital where she came to be known as the 'cookie lady.' She was a devoted catholic, never missed an opportunity to attend mass.

Their grandson, son of Robert A., Charles Joseph Manegre's is memorial #52411362.
