WASHINGTON Corrine Carter Young Washington, wife of the late Rev. Joseph E. Washington, died Friday, March 9, 2007 at 1:40 p.m. at Canon Hospice. She was the daughter of the late Mary Blackwell and the late Joe Carter. She is survived by her granddaughter, Lisa Marie Manning Ambrose; her great-granddaughter, Erin Denise Williams; her grandson-in-law, Raymond L. Ambrose III; a godchild, Michael McGinnis; her sisters: Eola Bell (Paul), Fannie Mae Jones and Mary Gillingham; her brothers: Lutcher Miller Jr. (Gladys) and Sylvester Dorsey (Vicky); a devoted friend, Ethel Bailey; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Verna Jean Dupre; and a granddaughter, Karen Denise Littleton. Relatives and friends; officers and members of St. John Baptist Church, New St. John Baptist Church in Plaquemine; doctors and nurses of Ochsner Hospital, Canon Hospice, Eagan Home Healthcare; employees of Chateau Lemoyne Hotel, Spears and Spears, NOPD, UPS Store and Latter & Blum are invited to attend the Funeral Service at St. John Baptist Church, 8540 Panola St. on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Donald P. Boutte, Pastor, officiating. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery. CHARBONNET-LABAT, Directors, 581-4411

CORRINE CARTER WASHINGTON, is the daughter of Mary Jane Blackwell and Joe "Yank" Carter of Plaquemine, Louisiana. She was reared by her dear Aunt, the Late Henrietta Blackwell Kitts. Corrine attended the Iberville Parish School system and later moved to New Orleans at the age of 19. She had accepted the Lord at a young age and was baptized by the Late Reverend J. H. Thompson at New Saint John Baptist Church in Plaquemine, LA. She became a member of Loving Four Baptist Tabernacle when she moved to New Orleans.

She met and married Morris Young, but the Lord called him home shortly thereafter. As an active member of her church, she later met and married the late Reverend Joseph E. Washington, Jr. They made St. John Baptist Church their church home where he became the Assistant Pastor and later the Pastor. She was the First Lady. While her health and sight permitted, she was extremely active in Church and enjoyed serving the Lord.

She leaves to mourn her passing her granddaughter, Lisa Marie Manning Ambrose(Raymond Louis III), great granddaughter, Erin Denise Williams, sisters: Eola Bell (Paul), Fannie Jones and Mary Gillingham; brothers: Lutcher Miller, Jr. (Gladys) and Sylvester Dorsey (Vicki); sisters-in-law, Ethel Parker, Irma Washington; godson, Michael McGinnis, Marino Valley, CA; a very devoted friend, Ethel Bailey and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to previously memtioned loved ones, Corrine was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, parents, daughter, Verna Jean Dupree, granddaughter, Karen Denise Littleton, brothers: Reverend James Washington, George Parker, Sr., Edward Favors and Alton Favors.
